Come and GROW with the Charleston Area Alliance

The Charleston Area Alliance is now accepting applications for its upcoming class of GROW.

GROW is the Alliance’s six-month entrepreneurial “boot camp” that connects local small business owners to the people and resources they need to grow their businesses. The program is designed to foster entrepreneurship in the Kanawha Valley.

GROW3wtagParticipants commit up to four-hours per month for in-person activities, offering entrepreneurial education, support and network building through:
  • Monthly educational lectures led by University of Charleston and West Virginia State University professors and successful regional entrepreneurs
  • One-on-one business coaching sessions with a GROW business coach
  • Entrepreneur peer group meetings with GROW classmates
This will be the fourth installment of GROW, with more than 25 entrepreneurs already completing the program.
Additional value-add benefits of GROW include:
  • A one-year Alliance membership ($365 value), which Includes access to Alliance networking events (Business After Hours, First Friday)
  • Access to room “415 at the Alliance,” a collaborative office-space in the Alliance’s incubator, which can be used for work, meetings, and everything in between.
  • Get pro-bono advising from Charleston professionals on a variety of topics including: marketing, legal, creative, insurance, banking, and more.

Entrepreneurs must meet eligibility requirements, submit a completed application and commit to six months of engaged participation.

GROW members will also receive access to free consulting from business professionals in an array of fields including legal, accounting, banking, graphic design, and human resources, in addition to being connected to a professional mentor.

Tuition for the program is $250, with $100 being reimbursed at the conclusion of the program. The program fee also includes a complimentary one-year membership to the Alliance ($365 value).

GROW3wtagThe Charleston Area Alliance will plant the seeds of success for up to 20 budding area businesses through GROW, an initiative designed to foster entrepreneurship in the Kanawha Valley.  GROW is a six-month entrepreneurial bootcamp that features education sessions, business coaching and entrepreneur community building.

The program, now recruiting for its third class, supports entrepreneurs who have been in business for less than three years and who seek to expand their network and gain insight from experienced and successful area business people. GROW requires your business to already be registered with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office.

The program will offer entrepreneurial education, support and network building through:

  • Educational courses led by University of Charleston and West Virginia State University MBA professors and successful regional entrepreneurs
  • One-on-one business coaching sessions with a GROW-exclusive business coach
  • Entrepreneur peer group meetings or “Virtual Boards.”

Entrepreneurs must meet eligibility requirements, submit a completed application and commit to six months of engaged participation.

Deadline for applications is June 20.

Alliance planting the seeds of success for budding area businesses with GROW

GROW offers educational training, individual coaching and peer feedback to Kanawha Valley entrepreneurs, who have been in business for less than three years, have less than five employees and who seek to expand their network and gain insight from experienced and successful area business people.

The six month program includes: entrepreneurial education courses led by regional higher education professors and successful regional entrepreneurs; one-on-one meetings with business coaches; and entrepreneur peer group meetings facilitated by a business coach.

Upon successful completion of the program, entrepreneurs will receive $100 of this tuition back to strategically reinvest into their business. GROW registration ends this Monday

GROW3wtagTime is running out to come and GROW with the Charleston Area Alliance.

GROW, an initiative designed to foster entrepreneurship in the Kanawha Valley, is now accepting applications for its Summer/Fall 2013 session. Registration ends this Monday.

The program offers educational training, individual coaching and peer feedback to Kanawha Valley entrepreneurs, who have been in business for less than three years, have less than five employees and who seek to expand their network and gain insight from experienced and successful area business people.

  • One-on-one meetings with WV SBDC business coaches
  • Entrepreneur peer group meetings facilitated by a business coach.

The program will kick off on July 17 and thereafter require a one time per week GROW commitment. Tuition for the program is $250, which includes a complimentary one-year membership to the Alliance ($365 value).

The Alliance membership includes access to a year’s worth of professional and business development programming, networking opportunities and Alliance conference room space and other amenities.

“The GROW program has truly transformed the way I manage my business,” said Julie Wirts, owner of The Dressmaker’s Closet, a custom sewing and alterations boutique.

Wirts was part of GROW’s inaugural class in 2012.

“GROW and the Alliance have introduced me to people and organizations that I would not have met otherwise,” said Stephanie Casey of WV Miners Basketball.

Casey, a member of the 2012 class, was the recent winner of a GROW crowdfunding event. The prize netted her business more than $1,000.

Upon successful completion of the program, entrepreneurs will receive $100 of this tuition back to strategically reinvest into their business.

GROW is a program of Vision 2030, the Alliance’s 20-year economic development initiative.

Vote for the Kanawha Valley’s next entrepreneurial star on June 12

GROW, the Charleston Area Alliance’s entrepreneurship initiative, will host an exclusive crowdfunding event on June 12 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Alliance’s offices at 1116 Smith Street.

The event will feature five GROW businesses competing for more than $1,000 in crowd funds. The businesses will deliver 90-second elevator pitches at the event to earn the vote of those attending.

The featured businesses include:

  • Alum Creek Bookbinder
  • B.Belle Events
  • Dressmaker’s Closet
  • WV Cheer Academy
  • WV Miners Basketball

General admittance is $10. In return, guests will get to partake in beverages and food, but more importantly, they get to vote for the entrepreneur that they want to support.
You cannot vote for a winner, unless you attend the event.
