Generation Charleston is hosting a workshop titled “Non-Profit Marketplace: Where Can You Fit Into Your Community?” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. this evening at BrickStreet Insurance, 400 Quarrier St.
“The purpose of the event is helping young citizens more fully understand the non-profit landscape and opportunities within that exist in our community,” said Pamela Swanson, co-captain of the Professional Development Team.
This free event will include a brief presentation on volunteering, board membership and ways of giving. Former Generation Charleston Co-Chair Matthew Kingery is one of the event’s speakers.
After the workshop presentation, attendees will be invited to talk with 16 participating non-profits ranging from the Alzheimer’s Association to United Way in a trade show- style atmosphere about their opportunities for involvement during a small reception.
“Part of Generation Charleston’s mission is making the region more attractive to young talent and emerging leaders,” said Heather Lyons, co-captain of the Professional Development Team.
“We’ve found that when people are involved in the community through volunteering and outreach, they feel a stronger connection to that community and are more likely to continue living there,” she continued. “Generation Charleston wants to help people discover how they can best serve and where they best fit.”
